Date

Description
Petitioners
John Elkyn of Villeneuve-la-Comtesse.
Name(s)
Elkyn, John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[Petition in 3 parts].1) Elkyn requests £100 of rent annually from the money of the country of the town of Villeneuve for his sustenance and that of his wife and children as he has lost everything when La Rochelle and the land around was surrendered to the French. He requests these notwithstanding that these things are not currently in the king's hand or obedience.2) Elkyn requests that he can be granted the lands, wines, rents, possessions and inheritances of Bergos and others, the king's enemies for him and his heirs.3) Elkyn requests that should the king recover the land that he will grant to him and his heirs the manor of St-Etienne-la-Cigogne which was granted to him in marriage by the lady of Surgreres on his marriage with her sister, and from which he is ousted because the lady is the king's enemy and rebel.
Nature of endorsement
[On face:]1) Because the thing concerns the lordship of Thomas of Woodstock it cannot be done.2) Let it be done for the term of the life of the petitioner providing that should any of the rebels surrender themselves into the king's grace that the king is able to ordain what he pleases.3) Let it be done if the petitioner is able to recover the lands by conquest, saving the right of those in that part.[On dorse, none].
