SC 8/227/11322
Date
[1353]
Description
Petitioners
Edmund de Bulestrode (Bulstrode).
Name(s)
de Bulestrode (Bulstrode), Edmund
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Bulestrode requests a special grant that he be able to grant land and meadow in Priestley and Ruxox which are not held of the king to a chaplain to sing in the chapel of Our Lady of Flitwick without paying a fine.
Nature of endorsement
[On face:]This is granted on the testimony of Thomas de Brembre.[On face, none].
Places mentioned
Priestley, Bedfordshire
Rankedissh (Ruxox), Bedfordshire
Flitwick, Bedfordshire.
People mentioned
Maud [Bulestrode (Bulstrode)], wife of the petitioner
Thomas de Brembre.
Note
The petition dates to 1353 as a licence was granted to the petitioner on 10 October 1353 (CPR 1350-4, p.496). It appears highly likely that 'Rankedissh' is actually Ruxox, a place in Flitwick parish with links to the church. The spelling given differs markedly from the usual variants, but is probably a product of scribal inaccuracy.
