Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/224/11194
Date
[1386-1387]
Description
Petitioners
John Daventre (Daventry), clerk.
Name(s)
Daventre (Daventry), John
Addressees
King.
Occupation
clerk
Nature of request
John Daventre requests that he be restored to the church of Llanrwst, from which he has been ousted by Benet. Benet has fraudulently secured a presentment to that church from the king, and has pursued him in the courts.
Nature of endorsement
Let this bill be sent into chancery, and call the parties, and if the complaint made within is found to be true, then let the presentment be repealed and let the petitioner be restored to his benefice, along with all the profits received in the meantime.
Places mentioned
Llanraust (Llanrwst), [Denbighshire, Wales]
St Asaph diocese
Shropshire.
People mentioned
Nicholas Benet (Bennet, Bennett), chaplain
sheriff of Shropshire.
Note
This petition was evidently presented just before the issue of the writ to the sheriff of Shropshire on 28 July 1387 (SC 8/224/11192), clearly a direct response to this petition. As claimed in the petition, Daventre's original appointment was ratified on 26 March 1386, and Benet's presentment was cancelled on 30 November 1387.
