Nature of request
Writ of Richard II, dated at Westminster 28 July 1387, to the sheriff of Shropshire, ordering him to summon Nicholas Benet before the king in chancery at the octave of Michaelmas next, to show cause why the king should not revoke his presentation to the church of Llanrwst and restore Daventre. Daventre has shown by petition that he held the church for a long time until Benet fraudulently claimed that the church was vacant and secured the presentation from the king.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] By the king himself.[on dorse] Robert de Lee, sheriff.Make to come Nicholas Benet chaplain at the time and place mentioned within this writ to answer what this writ requires according to the tenor of the writ [pledges named but largely illegible].The said John appoints in his place Simon Gaunstead and John Pygot the elder as attorneys in this suit.
