Note (Additional information about the record)
- As noted on the guard, the petition evidently dates to the episcopate of either John Gilbert (1375-89) or his successor John Trefnant (1389-1404). From the handwriting, the latter appears most likely, but there is nothing to suggest that the petition is connected with the patent roll reference also given on the guard, a licence for the foundation of a chantry in Ledbury in 1399 (CPR 1399-1401, p.62).
