Nature of request
The Earl of Salisbury requests action by the commissioners in the case pending in the court of chivalry between himself and John de Montagu, for fear that the witnesses may be absent through death or illness, to his great prejudice. The commissioners should be the archbishop of Canterbury, the bishops of London and Llandaff and the Earls of Arundel, Stafford and Oxford, or at least two of them.

Dated on the guard to c. 1383, and by Rees to 1384-5. The precise position of this petition in the complicated chronology of this dispute is uncertain. The names of the bishops have been supplied assuming a date between 1383 and 1385.
