Nature of request
The abbot and convent of Hailes state that they leased their churches of Paul and Breage to John and Walter Couderowe at 140 marks per year for twenty years, but that when this was not paid they pursued both men in the courts and they were outlawed. Consequently all the men's possessions in the county have been taken into the king's hands, and they therefore request that the king restore their churches to them, and that they be granted the goods and chattels of the two men to the value of the outstanding arrears of 140 marks.
