SC 8/223/11135
Date
[1380]
Description
Petitioners
Henry de Barton, clerk, and other joint feoffees.
Name(s)
de Barton, Henry
Addressees
King.
Occupation
clerk
Nature of request
Henry de Barton and his co-feoffees request licence to continue with the projected enfeoffment of a toft in the town of Tadcaster, granted to them in order for it to be granted to a chantry chaplain in the parish church of that town. An inquisition ad quod damnum has found that it is not to the damage of the king or any other, as the toft, held of the king in chief by knight service, is waste and worth no more than 4d per year.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] sent to the council.Veer (Vere).[on dorse] The council agree that this bill should be enacted for a fine of one noble.
Places mentioned
Tadcaster, [West Riding of Yorkshire].
People mentioned
[Henry Percy], Earl of Northumberland
[Aubrey de] Vere.
Note
The inquisition ad quod damnum mentioned in the petition was held on 13 April 1380, in response to a writ issued on 10 February 1380, and the petition presumably dates to shortly thereafter. The date of 1379 given on the guard would appear to be incorrect, as the petition clearly post-dates that inquisition.
