Description

Name(s)
de Clyderowe (Clitheroe), Richard
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Richard de Clyderowe states that although he has been presented by the king to the church of St Peter Port on Guernsey to replace Laurence Pussyn, a Norman subject of the French king appointed by the Bishop of Coutances, he has been unable to take up his post due to resistance from the people of the island. He requests that the king order the keeper and others to arrest Pussyn and bring him before the king to show his title to the church.
Nature of endorsement
Let there be a commission according to the terms of this bill.
Places mentioned
St Peter Port, Guernsey, [Channel Islands]
Normandy, [France]
Rome, [Italy].
People mentioned
Laurence Pussyn of Normandy
Bishop of Coutances
[Hugh de Calveley], Keeper of the Channel Islands
Denys le Marchand

John Pykard.
Note
As noted on the guard, this would seem to be the petition which resulted in the issuing of orders to arrest Pussyn on 3 May 1384. This petition appears to have been part of a long-running dispute over possession of this church (for further details see 'Ancient Petitions of the Chancery and the Exchequer ayant trait aux Iles de la Manche' (Societe Jersiaise, 1902), pp.79-81, which contains editions and discussions of related petitions).
