Nature of request
The petitioners state that Thorneburgh and others came to Kendal armed in manner of war to attack them, so much so that the inhabitants fled thinking them to be a band of Scots. They request that the king issue writs to the sheriffs of Cumberland and Westmorland, and directly to the people involved, summoning them before him at the quindene of John the Baptist next to answer for their actions, under pain of £200.
