Nature of request
The petitioners request the restoration of their ship and goods, and the return of the sums given as surety, following the arrest of their ship by the bailiffs of Great Yarmouth. They state that a small boat carrying two people allegedly became caught in their mooring cable, and those of other ships, as they slept in their ship moored in the harbour at Great Yarmouth. The men drowned, and the bailiffs seized their ship as a deodand, as they are strangers and ignorant of local customs.

This matter is determined in parliament that neither the ship nor the cable ought to be adjudged deodand nor forfeit for this reason, and that the ship, its fittings and goods be restored to the merchants, and they and their mainpernors be discharged their surety in the chancery, the mainprise being cancelled in the rolls, and that it not be set amongst the estreats of chancery.
