Nature of request
The Earl of Kildare requests remedy, stating that William de Vessy held the lordship of Kildare, with various rights and franchises, but that it was seized by Edward I into his hands and granted by Edward II to John FitzThomas. The lordship and its franchises descended through the family to Maurice, his father, who held them for many years until the office of sheriff of Kildare and various other rights were seized into the king's hands by Ufford.

Dated on the guard (and also by Connolly) to c. 1391, with reference to SC 8/249/12403, another petition on this matter which was formerly enclosed in a chancery warrant (C 81/527/7467) dated 22 June 1391. Presumably the present petition dated from around the same time.
