Nature of request
Matthew de Gourney, provost of Entre-Deux-Mers, requests that the king re-examine the issue of the payment of 'auberges' (rights of lodging and provisioning) within his provostry, and, if it is found that such are due, repeal earlier letters patent issued to the people of that region granting exemption to such payments. He recounts how the people refused to pay, and that an enquiry held at Bordeaux by the Duke of Lancaster found that such payments were due, but the people have since petitioned the king in Gourney's absence, and secured letters confirming their exemption, to the disinheritance of him and the king.

Note
Dated on the guard to? 1393-7, with reference to the document's former reference, Chancery Files 439. Another petition from this petitioner on this same matter was granted by the king on 3 July 1398, which would seem to confirm a date around this time.
