Date
[1397]
Description
Petitioners
? No Petitioner named
Nature of request
Fragmentary remains of a chancery warrant, issued by Richard II from Woodstock and presumably addressed to the chancellor, ordering him to summon Ely, Doke and others before him and do justice to the parties.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Beklys (Beccles), [Suffolk]
Woodstock, [Oxfordshire].
People mentioned
[Richard II], King of England
[Edmund Stafford, chancellor]
William Ely, parson of Beccles
Robert Doke (Duke).
Note
This warrant, although damaged and incomplete, is clearly associated with the two writs at SC 8/221/11031-2, which were almost certainly produced in response to it. The date of the warrant is now missing, but the writs were produced on 23 November 1397, and Richard II is known to have been at Woodstock around that time.
