Description

Name(s)
Dale, Alice
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Alice, widow of Walter de la Dale, states that in 23 Edward III, her brother William Russell, vicar of Whaplode, granted property in Louth to her and her husband, and that in 3 Richard II her husband granted this to Robert, Abbot of Louth Park, for the term of Walter's life. However, Boston, a monk of Louth Park, came to the church at Louth and stole the charters to this and other property from Forman's keeping, and took them to the abbey, after which Kyseby was put in possession in the abbot's name. The abbot then forced Walter to come to Lincoln, where he was imprisoned and made to enter a statute relinquishing his claim. They have now been ousted for nine years, and William, now abbot of Louth Park, has made Kyseby alienate the property to Bugthorpe and others, to disinherit Alice and her heirs forever. She therefore requests letters to the Abbot, ordering him to restore the property and charters to her, or to appear in Chancery with the charters in the next Hilary term.
Nature of endorsement
