Nature of request
Joan, widow of Ralph Basset of Drayton, requests the restoration to her of the manors of Olney and Pattingham, held by her as part of her dower from her late husband. She states that she demised these lands to Tangeley, with reversions to herself in the event of the rent being in arrears, but that they were seized into the king's hands after it was found that the feoffees had an estate in the manors to the use of the Earl of Warwick, who suffered forfeiture in the Westminster parliament of 21 Richard II. The manors were then granted to the Duke of Norfolk, but were again taken into the king's hands on the Duke's forfeiture, and the rent is now in arrears.
