Note
Dated in the dating clause to 17 January 1311. The petition, and the surviving enrolments, all refer to a town of 'Westfale', of which the Archbishop of Cologne was lord. The name is likely to refer to the region of Westphalia, the area around Cologne ruled by the Archbishop. However, no town of that name seems to have existed, and it is not on the coast, although the attackers may have sailed up the Rhine from Cologne or another town in the region.
