Nature of request
The men of Chester make two requests.1) The request a remedy for a prise of wine taken from them.2) They request a remedy for other prises made at Chester castle, especially of ale and other merchandise.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] 1) Too bad - as the King can demand from [them] the arrears, because no-one in the realm is quit of the King's prises, not the high nor the low.2) They should show before the Treasurer and John de Kirkeby in which prises etc., and have just remedy in chancery.Response given to the Prior of Birkenhead: he should prosecute before the Treasurer and John de Kirkeby, whom the King has instructed to show him full justice etc. And the justice of Cheshire is to be called etc..Response given to the Prior of Newport Pagnell.
