Nature of request
The burgesses of Haverfordwest request that the king order justices to determine matters in their dispute with William de Valence. Firstly they state that William de Valence has distrained the burgesses to appear in the county of Pembroke, contrary to their right only to be empleaded before the bailiffs of their town. Secondly they complain that although the king has suspended all contentions between the town and Valence from 7 April 1282 until six weeks after Michaelmas next, and that 140 burgesses were outlawed by mainprise, Valence has entered their town and held three sessions of the court, contrary to their franchise.
