- Roger de Beufou states that he was attacked at his house in Waterperry on the feast of St Barnabas, but he does not know the names of the attackers. He therefore requests that the king assign either Bereford and Hegham or Batesford and Hegham, justices of assize in Oxfordshire, to enquire into the attack, and try the case.

Note (Additional information about the record)
- Commissions of oyer and terminer were issued in relation to this attack on 17 November 1298, 20 October 1299 and 16 August 1300. Since the petition refers to the feast of St Barnabas (11 June) 'this year' it presumably dates to 1298, or possibly earlier. The petitioner's name appears as 'Bello Fago' in the patent rolls, suggesting that it is the French form 'Beufou' given here rather than 'Benson', as given in the old index.
