Reference
SC 8/218/10888
Date
[1307]
Description
Petitioners
Joan Wake
Name(s)
Wake, Joan
Addressees
[None specified.]
Nature of request
[This is clearly a continuation from another petition.]The said Joan also requests that she may have the farm of the king's toll between Solway and Arthuret, paying as much as the sheriff of Cumberland answers for at the Exchequer. She also requests a writ of respite for the old debts of the king which are coming in demand from the Exchequer.
Nature of endorsement
On the first, the sheriff is to be told in writing to inform the treasurer how much he pays for the toll each year.On the second, she is to have respite until the quindene of Easter.
Places mentioned
Solway [Firth], [Cumberland]
Arthuret, [Cumberland].
People mentioned
Sheriff of Cumberland.
Note
Dated by PROME and Rot. Parl. Vol. I to the Carlisle parliament of 1307. A note on the guard links this petition with SC 8/311/15579, a petition explicitly from Joan Wake requesting respite from debts, also from that date. However, the two documents are very different, and although the present petition was presumably once a continuation of another document, there is no clear indication that these two were ever joined together.
