Ellis de Jonestone requests the payment of his wages and all other outstanding sums relating to his wages and expenses for his service as keeper of the pleas pending between the king, his father and his grandfather, and the kings of France over the previous twenty-five years.
Nature of endorsement
[Parts of the endorsements are now missing.]Transcript of the response of the king's council in parliament held in London in the [...] year of the reign. It seems to the council that this petition is just, and that a writ be ordained and executed accordingly, as others were done in times past, [...] and let writs be issued upon this.

People mentioned

Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1327, with reference to another related petition. A number of seemingly related petitions and other documents survive from Jonestone, while the reference to 25 years service to the king, his father and grandfather, coupled with the handwriting, would seem to suggest a date early in the reign of Edward III. Jonestone was active as keeper of the processes in the court of France for many years, and a number of petitions survive from him from the early years of Edward III's reign, requesting to be replaced, and he was replaced in 1335.
