Nature of request
Thomas de Fetherstanhalgh makes a number of requests relating to the building of a peel at Staward.1) He states that, whereas he undertook to build and repair the peel at Staward for £100, he is no longer able to do so without ruining himself, as wood and stone are hard to carry to the peel.2) He also states that there are no stores at Staward, and asks that these be replenished.3) He only has the keeping of the peel until the following feast of St Peter, and asks how the peel will be defended thereafter, and by whom.4) He requests letters of protection for Cape, his surveyor of works, for as long as he remains in service.
