Description

William de Ros, son of Alexander de Ros.
Name(s)
de Ros, William
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
William, son of Alexander de Ros, requests remedy, stating that Gilbert de Grendon granted him four marks a year from his manor of Grindon for the suit owed by him and his men of Grindon to Alexander's mill of Haltwhistle. Hugh, son of Gilbert, alienated the manor of Grindon to Alexander, King of Scotland, and this rent was paid by Alexander, and John de Balliol after him, until Grindon came into the hands of Anthony, Bishop of Durham, who has detained it. Ros has often sued the bishop for this rent, but to no avail.
Nature of endorsement
Send a writ of chancery to Robert de Barton, king's bailiff of Tynedale, to enquire into the seisin of the claimant, and what right he has, etc., and to return the inquisition before the council at mid-Lent, and to summon the petitioner to show his charters and muniments, if this seems expedient.
