Nature of request
The petitioner states that he received a writ, dated 26 August 1378 and addressed to Calvylay or his lieutenant, ordering him to hold an inquisition into claims that a subject of France had entered the church of St Peter Port and taken all the profits to his use [text of writ transcribed]. He states that he has held an inquisition before Marcher and others, and found that after the death of Sellez in March 1368, Pouchin, from St Germain de Heauville near Cherbourg and of the allegiance of the King of Navarre, accepted the church by the provision of Pope Urban V, made at the collation of the Abbot of Marmoutier, and was put in possession by the Bishop of Coutances on 26 March 1368, during a time of peace. Walter Huet was then Warden. Sellez has since that time resided at the church, performing his offices, and has been a faithful liege of the king. Dated 14 December 1378.
