[The right end of this petition is damaged and incomplete.]The petitioners request that the council summon Usflete before them to explain why he cut down a hanged thief from the gallows before the period specified in their judgment, to the prejudice of their franchises and liberties.
Nature of endorsement
On 8 July in the third year it was agreed in the council, being present the Chancellor, Treasurer, the Bishop of Rochester, the keeper of the Privy Seal, J Scarle, Thomas Rempston, J. Prophete, John Doreward and John Frome, that Usflete be summoned to appear before them at the quindene of Michaelmas next to answer this matter, under pain of £100.
