Nature of request
The petitioner requests the restoration of his ship, taken at the port of London and detained from him. He states that the ship was taken from the French, having been taken by them earlier, and arrived in London with various men-at-arms loaded with wine from Bordeaux, but was taken by the sheriff at the instigation of Hore, claiming that it had no royal sergeant, and he has been ordered to appear before various courts.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] The king wills that his council shall ordain right to the petitioner with all haste.The Earl of Somerset.[on dorse] On 1 February in the fifth year, by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Bishop of Lincoln, Chancellor, the Earl of Westmorland, the Treasurer, the Keeper of the Privy Seal, John Cheyne, John Norbury and other lords assembled in the chamber of Parliament, it was agreed that the petition be sent to the chancellor for him to summon the parties before him, and for justices and doctors of law to do justice on this matter; and if the chancellor feels that the case should not be judged in chancery, then he should send the parties to another court. And writs should be made to the Admiral of the West and the sheriffs of London superseding the processes in their courts until they should receive further orders from the king.
