Description
Petitioners
Prior and brothers of the hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England.
Addressees
Council.
Nature of request
The prior and brothers request that whereas the Templars built two forges in Fleet Street for which they paid a farm of 15s. to the King's progenitors, and the forges were destroyed by insurgents during the reign of Richard II, considering that they cannot rebuild the forges because of the great impairment of Fleet Street and that process has been made against them in the Exchequer for the said farm by the name of £15 and arrears, that the council grant them a writ of supersedeas directed to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to cease their process, as the former chancellor granted them from time to time.
Nature of endorsement
On 29 November in the 6th year (1404) it was agreed by the chancellor and deputy treasurer that a writ of supersedeas should be made according to the tenor of the writs annexed to this.
Places mentioned
Fleet Street, London.
People mentioned

Note
Dated in the endorsement to 29 November in the sixth regnal year. Since the petition refers to events of the reign of Richard II, the king in question is probably Henry IV, and the year is 1404.
