Montet requests that whereas the King granted him for life the office of castellan of Saint-Macaire, the greater part of which castle's walls were destroyed by your enemies, and the petitioner is of such estate that he cannot make the repairs or fortify the walls, that for the duration of the wars he be granted from each merchandise of the enemy passing in the sight of the castle ... in the same manner as Felton did, and that he have letters patent pardoning the people of Saint-Macaire and Gontaud.
Nature of endorsement
On 29 May in the sixth year (1383), the council agreed that the petitioner should have the imposition requested for 3 years, and that charters should be made to be delivered to the people and inhabitants mentioned within if they will come to the King's obeisance and to the people named in a schedule to be sent to the clerk of rolls pardoning their rebellions, misprisions and trespasses, and also that two general charters pardoning all such rebellions, misprisions and trespasses should be made for the people of St Macaire and Gontaud.
