Kirkby recounts that he previously appeared before the council complaining about various wrongs done to him by John Hende, but that this bill has not been executed. The parties were assigned a day and the petitioner went to his hostel in Essex, ... Maundevill came with force and arms and entered the petitioner's close and beat and wounded him but he escaped with his life, to his damage of £100. Maundevill then threatened to kill him, for fear of which Kirkby left his lands and possessions and is now residing in London with his wife and six children, to his great cost and damage of £100. Kirkby requests that Maundevill be ordered to appear before the council to explain why he acted thus and that justice be done to the petitioner.
