Nature of request
Perrers lent £1000 to Fitz Walter for which he mortgaged the castle of Egremont and therein enfeoffed forever three people chosen by Perrers, on condition that if Fitz Walter repaid the said £1000 in ten years he could have his castle back, which term has now passed. This feoffment and payment was to the use and profit of Perrers, the forfeiture of which belongs to the King by virtue of an ordinance made in parliament. It is requested that Bretby, one of the feoffees of the castle, be put in safekeeping until the King can pursue that which is due to him, since he is bent on causing the King to lose the said sum.
