Nature of request
Hoton requests letters patent stating that he can have the office of forester of Plumpton in the forest of Inglewood as his ancestors have always done and as he did until recently when the King's officers directed a writ to the sheriff of Cumbria to enquire into the petitioner's occupation and right. It was certified in the Chancery that the petitioner and his ancestors have always had and enjoyed the said office.
Nature of endorsement
On 23 February in the 21st year (1398) the council agreed that a writ should be made to the justice of the forest or his lieutenant to allow the petitioner to have and enjoy what he has requested in the same manner as his ancestors did.
