Nature of request
The commons request that Rufford should be removed from the office of common clerk forever since when he was retained as common clerk in the time of Langton, he was attainted of many frauds and trespasses and removed from office, and when in the time of Howom he was again retained as common clerk, he again was attainted and removed from office, and when in the time of Acastre he was retained as common clerk for a third time, he again was attainted and removed from office. Also, that 14 men should be chosen by the community to examine and search all the bags with the rolls of the bridge-masters and all other remembrances pertaining to the community from Rufford's time until now, because the bags have been broken into, and some of the remembrances, silver and other things stolen, and because Rufford has undertaken to make settlement for the silver and other misdeeds concerning the bags.
