Nature of request

Larke then died and John Denefeld, being very ill and fearing for his life, asked Simon to make sure that the estate would belong to Cecilia and his heirs forever, so that after his death Cecilia could pay his debts, provide for his children and arrange suitable marriages for his two daughters, and that after this had been accomplished she should enfeoff the manor to Miles and his heirs who would pay 40s. yearly to William, so that if Miles died without heir the manor would go to William and his heirs forever, all of which Simon refused to do. John, thinking he did not have long to live, went to his parish church of Twineham and in the presence of the parson and all the parishioners declared that it was his will that after his death Simon and Stygant should enfeoff the manor to Cecilia and his heirs forever and asked them to bear witness to this in the future, which the parson and parishioners agreed to do.
