Nature of request
Writ of Edward II to Herlaston and Aldeburgh assigning them to hold an inquisition by jury into the complaint made by petition by John, abbot of Byland concerning the forest of Middlesmoor in Nidderdale, which he and his predecessors have held since the gift of William de Mowbray, and by fine of Roger de Mowbray until the forfeiture of John de Mowbray when the forest was taken into the king's hand.
