The people request that the new tax for which they are charged at the tenth penny for rents and the fifteenth for their movables be released or respited as they are grievously distrained for it and their doorways sealed up.

The petition is dated to 1312 on the basis of the brief discussion of the date provided by Fraser (Northern Petitions, pp.111-12 (no.77)). She suggests that the tax referred to in the petition is the tallage of 1312.
