SC 8/204/10174
Date
[1322]
Description
Petitioners
Edmund Burgiloun (Burgilon); Eleanor Burgiloun (Burgilon), wife of Edmund Burgilon.
Name(s)
Burgiloun (Burgilon); Burgiloun (Burgilon), Edmund; Eleanor
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The Burgilouns request that they are not ousted from Eleanor Burgiloun's dower of a third part of £20 of rent from the manor of Great Ryburgh on account of the trespass done by Walkefare to the king. Eleanor Burgiloun recovered the rent in the king's court, but Howard has taken the manor into the king's hand including the dower rent because of the trespass.1)
Nature of endorsement
The record and process of the recovery should be brought into Chancery, and should be enquired as to the estate that Eleanor Burgiloun had and if she was seised after the recovery, and if she leased it to Walkefare, and the king is to be certified in Chancery and let justice be done there.2) Afterwards by the record and process it was found that she recovered her dower, and by inquisition it was found that she was seised until Michaelmas last. Let it be ordered that the dower rent be restored with the arrears of the rent from the time that it was taken into the king's hand.
Places mentioned
Great Ryburgh, [Norfolk].
People mentioned
William de Mounpizoun, late husband of Eleanor Burgiloun
Robert de Walkefare
John Howard, sheriff of Norfolk.
Note
The petition dates to 1322 as all the attached documents all date to the period May-June 1322 except a copy of a plea for 1320 (SC 8/204/10174-8). In addition, SC 8/204/10177 refers to this petition being presented at the parliament held at York, which in all likelihood means the parliament held there on 2 May 1322 in the aftermath of the Lancaster revolt.
