Name(s)
de Lubek (Lubeck), Brandekyn
Addressees

merchant of Almaine
Nature of request
Brandekyn de Lubek states that in the thirteenth year of the King's reign, he bought sixty sacks of wool from John Brakel of Retford, and paid him beforehand in London before good people and burgesses of the city, so that John would give him or his attorney ten sacks each year until the sixty sacks were complete; and they made their bond on this. But when John had received the money he would not fulfil their agreement, or answer Brandekyn; but instead he had to deal with Robert de Swylington, steward of the Bishop of Lincoln, with whom John had enfeoffed all his lands and goods, so that nothing was found from which Brandekyn could have his recovery, and he could not distrain for this, as Robert de Swylington claimed all John's lands as his. He requests a remedy and his recovery.
Nature of endorsement
Before the King (coram rege) on behalf of the King, because it does not touch the ministers.Let him learn to do business more carefully in future etc. Or let him sue by writ if he wishes, because there does not seem to be any other remedy.
