Nature of request
The petition makes three requests:1) It asks that two or three suitable proctors might be chosen to sue to the King of France so that the second and third articles of the agreement made between the Kings of England and France in [1303] might be kept, and all wrongs and damages against them addressed, and specifically in the matter of the arrests ordered by the court of France to give satisfaction to Gerard de la Causade and others.2) It asks that people of the King's council might be appointed to see the requests made to the King of France by the messengers and proctors of the King's grandfather and his subjects, and their responses, with the aim of putting the King of France in default in the fulfilment of the pronunciation of Pope Boniface, and the peace treaties, truces and agreements made between the Kings of France and the Kings of England, and to inform the proctors concerning these requests and responses.3) It asks that the clerk assigned to the office of master Philip Martel, formerly occupied in defending the rights of the King's grandfather and his subjects might join with the proctors in the pursuit of this business.
