Name(s)
de Bodenho, John
Addressees

Occupation

Nature of request
John de Bodenho states that the people of Bedford had made him guardian for term of life of Bedford bridge, and of an oratory recently built for the maintenance the bridge, but that one John de Derby, clerk, suggested to the King that the oratory was his free chapel, and obtained collation to it, wrongly removing John de Bodenho from his wardship. He brought an assize of novel disseisin, and then successfully sued to the York parliament for the justices in that assize to proceed to judgment; but then John de Derby surrendered his right into the King's hand and William de Abbirbury was presented, so John de Bodenho again had to petition parliament at Westminster for the justices to proceed. His petition was granted, but although the assize has now been taken, the justices refuse to proceed. He requests a writ to the justices to proceed, as the assize has been pending for five years and more.
Nature of endorsement
A writ of the great seal is to be sent to the justices of assize containing the effect of this petition and the delays that have occurred in this business, and of the writs that have been sent to them to proceed to take the assize, and further to do full justice, so that they proceed to render judgment without delay, notwithstanding the King's collations, or the claims made, or other commands sent to them by the King, reproaching them for not having rendered judgment despite having been commanded to do full justice to the parties.
