Description
Petitioners
William Meruin of Sandridge.
Name(s)
Meruin, William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
William Meruin of Sandridge, which is of the ancient demesne of the crown, makes three requests:1) He states that he brought a petty writ of right in the court of Sandridge concerning tenements in the vill on the Monday after last Michaelmas, but that the bailiff is refusing to do anything; and a similar writ brought in the fifty-fourth year of King Henry was also ignored. He requests grace and a remedy, that he might be able to have justice by writ before the justices in eyre in Hertfordshire.2) He states that the Sheriff of Hertfordshire is refusing to do anything about a writ of re-disseisin that he brought, because he says that it was brought within the proclamation of the eyre. He requests a writ to the justices not to ignore the King's command because of the eyre.3) He states that the Abbot of St Albans has taken his plough, with its four oxen and four horses, for services and customs not due to him. William has asked to have it by a pledge, but he could not have it delivered. He purchased a writ to the Sheriff of Hertfordshire in the fifty-fourth year of King Henry, but nothing was done, so he purchased a second writ. He asks that the King's command might be obeyed, or a reason given why it has not been.
