Nature of request
Alexander, parson of the church of Horndon, states that it has often been ordained by the King's council that no-one should come with force and arms to collect tithes in any parish against the will of the parson, but that three hundred malefactors from various counties came with force and arms to his church of Horndon last August, and carried off £20 worth of tithes to the house of the parson of Dunton, at his command. He requests justices to investigate this matter, and that such punishment might be given to the malefactors as to be a warning to others.
