[c. 1326]
Description
Petitioners
Humphrey de Bassingbourne (Bassingbourn), lord of Benefield.
Name(s)
de Bassingbourne (Bassingbourn), Humphrey
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Humphrey de Bassingbourne states that his wood of Benefield, which is within the bounds of the Forest of Rockingham, was disafforested, and that during that disafforestation he improved part of this wood; but that this wood has been adjudged as waste within the forest by ministers of the forest, and a large redemption has been demanded of him. He asks that he might be pardoned this, according to the grant made by the King by his letters patent to the community of the land, pardoning all trespasses committed in woods which were disafforested by the perambulation, and which are now back within the forest.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ to the justices of the Forest that if he made waste before the re-seizure of disafforested land he is to be quit. If however he made that waste after the re-seizure, he is to be dealt with according to the assize of the forest.
Places mentioned
