Description
Petitioners
Tenants of the bordages of Landry, Cornet, Durant, Laisant and Rougefer in the parish of St Peter Port, of the bordage of Ralph Giffroy, and of Grosse teste bordage in the parish of St Sampson, Guernsey.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that they and their predecessors have always held their bordages peacefully for the due rents and services, but that John de Febringuefeld and his companions, lately appointed by the King to hold assizes on the island, wrongly and without cause took the bordages into the King's hand, and had them appraised, and had this valuation levied for the ministers of Otho de Grantson; and they have had them put out of their houses for non-payment. They request a writ to hold an inquisition into the truth of this, and that they might hold their bordages as before.
Nature of endorsement
Nicholas de Cheyny, master Philip de Cheyny and Peter Marchant are to be ordered, that they, or two of them being present, are to inquire into the contents of the petition and inform the King in Chancery.
