Philip de la Beche states that when he was Sheriff of Berkshire he several time claimed an allowance in his account for certain rents due to the king which other sheriffs used to levy to the King's benefit as a fixed rent belonging to the farm of the county in certain vills of the lordship of the Earl of Lancaster; but which have been levied for the Earl's use by reason of a franchise granted to him in the time of the late king: so that he cannot now levy them, although he is still charged with the full farm, without an allowance for these sums. He requests a remedy.

Philip de la Beche was Sheriff of Berkshire between April 1313 and October 1314. This petition would seem to date from shortly after this time.
