Nature of request
Gilbert Conan states that when he came to the town of Southampton on the King's business, the people of the town attacked and wounded him and left him near death, so that he was ill for two years and is permanently maimed. The town was taken into the King's hands for this, and he did his will with it, but Gilbert has never had any compensation. He requests some benefit, and more specifically that he might have maintenance in some religious house.
