Nature of request
John de Garston states that he was formerly of the household of Henry III, and that he has, by charters of King Henry and of the present king, the right not to be placed on any inquest, jury or assize against his will; but that, in the King's ninth year, he was called to an inquest held before Thomas de Weyland and William de Bromtone, justices, by the procurement of his enemies, although he was not summoned. He refused to swear the oath, citing these charters, and was amerced in £10. He has paid 40s and asks to be pardoned the remainder or the whole, as he is poor and bedridden, and has nothing from which to pay it.
