Nature of request
Nicholas de Cranford, rector of the church of Gillingham, states that the King's forest there is within his parish, and asks the King that he might order a tithe of the issues of that forest to be paid to him in full, according to the form of the apostolic instruction and exhortation shown to the King at Gillingham, when he was there at Christmas. He also states that his church was in seisin of a very little pasture in the lawn called Marleye, before it was included in the forest, and in possession of tithes of sheaves from two adjacent lawns until they too were included in the forest, and asks that he might graze animals in these woods at the time of herbage, as his predecessors did before they became part of the forest; and if it pleases, the King can inquire by a jury of upright and law-worthy men whether this was the case.

CPR 1272-81 p.174 is dated 18 January 1276, and the inquisition in CIM 1219-1307 no.1106 was held on the Sunday before Michaelmas, 6 Edward I (1278). The relationship of this petition to SC 8/200/9968A is unclear, but it must date from around this time.
