Reference
SC 8/200/9965
Date
[c. 1307]
Description
Petitioners
John Haiward (Hayward).
Name(s)
Haiward (Hayward), John
Addressees
[None].
Nature of request
Haiward requests an oyer and terminer as the bishop of Durham has detained a moiety of the [fees from the] passage of the Tweed after the time of the ruin of the bridge between Berwick and Tweedmouth to the disinheritance of the king.
Nature of endorsement
Sandale, Swinburn and Hartlepool.
Places mentioned
River Tweed
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland]
Tweedmouth, [Northumberland].
People mentioned
[Antony Bek], bishop of Durham
John de Sandale
John de Swyneburn (Swinburn)
Geoffrey de Hertepol (Hartlepool).
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1307 as a commission was issued into the matter on 28 March 1307 (CPR 1301-7,p.546). However, the individuals assigned to the commission are not the same as those assigned on the dorse of the petition, only one appearing on the patent roll entry. If this does not represent the same commission but with a change of personnel it is unlikely that the petition is very distant in date.
