Nature of request
John de Hastinges states that several debts are demanded of him and of his ancestors, and that he has been paying them at a rate of £20 annually, but that after his going into Gascony this has been disturbed. He asks the King to order a search to be made in the rolls to know the exact sum of these debts and how much is paid; and that the King might pardon him the remainder or let him pay in instalments.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the Treasurer and Barons, that they are to have the debts searched for and inform the King.
Note
Dated on the guard to the reign of Edward I, after 1302, with reference to the petitioner in Gascony (he was Seneschal from August 1302 to August 1304 and from February 1310 to January 1312), and to CFR 1272-1307, p.426, an order to allow him to repay all the debts of himself and his ancestors at £20 per year.
